Lucy Hobbs Project bestows honors on six women leading the dental industry

KaVo Kerr Group associates attend event honoring outstanding women in dentistry

As part of its ongoing commitment to women in dentistry, KaVo Kerr Group recently helped sponsor the Lucy Hobbs Project 3rd Annual Celebration. A number of KaVo Kerr Group associates — representing Pelton & Crane, KaVo, and KaVo Kerr Group Imaging — participated in the Baltimore event.

Anchored by keynote speaker Carey Lohrenz, the first female F?14 Tomcat fighter pilot in the U.S. Navy, the program also included recognition of six exceptional women as well as continuing education and professional development for attendees. The event is part of the larger Lucy Hobbs Project, a national, long?term program, founded by Benco Dental, which empowers women in dentistry to drive change and deliver results through three pillars: networking, innovation, and giving back.

Free to join, the project aims to bring women together from all facets of the dental industry for networking opportunities, education programs and charitable events. The awards, named for the woman who, in 1866, became the first American female to earn a degree in dentistry, recognize professionals whose achievements mirror those established by Lucy Hobbs.

Dr. Hobbs was denied access to education based on her gender, but persevered to learn dentistry through apprenticeship, and eventually graduated from the Ohio College of Dental Surgery. This year’s awards recipients include…

Mentorship Award: Dr. Luz Aguirre

Industry Icon Award: Dr. Esther M. Wilkins

Humanitarian Award: BB Maboby Bahadarakhan

Woman?to-Watch Award: Dr. Amanda Seay

Innovator Award: Dr. Lindsay Limbaugh

Clinical Expertise Award: Dr. Kendra Schaefer

“A vital part of KaVo Kerr Group’s mission is to inspire the best practices. We endeavor to deliver that inspiration through our wide range of best-in-class products, but also to discover it in people who are embodying innovation through their clinical practice and community service,” said Nicki Allen, director of product management for KaVo North America, Pelton & Crane, and Marus, who also attended the event. “It is also true that our customers our changing. 50 percent of graduating dentists are female. We partner with organizations such as The Lucy Hobbs Project to ensure that we understand the needs of female clinicians and develop outstanding products that meet those needs.”
